An empirical analysis of how intra-team salary inequality affects team performance under a hard salary cap in the National Hockey League. Using ten seasons of salary and performance data, this study applies Gini coefficients, Poisson regression, and dynamic panel Generalized Method of Moments to identify a concave relationship between salary dispersion and regular-season success, suggesting that moderately balanced payroll structures outperform both highly equal and highly concentrated ones.
