This project examines how district funding priorities and economic conditions relate to student performance across Texas public school districts. The analysis focuses on whether spending on instruction and student services can help offset the effects of poverty on STAAR achievement. Findings highlight that while economic disadvantage remains a key factor in academic outcomes, equitable and student-focused funding plays an important role in improving opportunities for success.

This analysis examines how district funding and socioeconomic conditions influence academic performance in Texas public schools. Using district-level data on expenditures, teacher experience, and STAAR outcomes, the study finds that instructional and student services spending show modest positive effects, while economic disadvantage has a strong negative correlation with performance.
